Leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has explained reasons why he abandoned his trial by the Nigerian Judicial system and escaped out of the country in 2017. Kanu, who was re-arrested and brought back to Nigeria on Sunday, June 27, told the Federal High Court in Abuja that he fled Nigeria to save his life. His appearance before the court came after the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, disclosed to journalists that Kanu was “intercepted” by security agents following a collaborative effort between security agencies in Nigeria and the Interpol. Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of a fugitive leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). The remand order was sequel to an application by a federal government lawyer, Shuaibu labaran. Kanu was said to have been intercepted by joint security operatives of the government. Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, who made the disclosure in a joint press briefing with the DSS and Police, said Kanu was arrested on Sunday, June 27, 2021. However, the briefing was silent on where he was arrested. Ruling on the request for remand in the custody of the DSS, Justice Nyako, held that the prosecution should inform Kanu’s lawyer of his rearrest and remand in the custody of the DSS. Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been arrested and extradited to Nigeria. The details were still sketchy at the time of writing, with no information of when and where he was arrested. Emma Powerful, IPOB spokesman, denied the news of the arrest while Frank Mba, police spokesman, is yet to respond to TheCable’s enquiry on whether the police was involved in the development. Kanu is facing charges bordering on treasonable felony instituted against him at the federal high court in Abuja in response to years of campaign for the independent Republic of Biafra through IPOB. He was granted bail in April 2017 for health reasons but skipped bail after flouting some of the conditions given to him by the court. The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has reiterated its commitment to rid the State of all environmental nuisances such as street trading and hawking on the major highways just as it warned the general public on any form of attacks on its operatives carrying out official duties of ensuring the general cleanliness of the State. The Lagos House of Assembly on Monday ordered Local Government councils and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state to desist from extorting and harassing operators of courier and logistics services in the state. This was as the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa, emphasized that local government councils and LCDAs do not have the power to tax logistics and courier services. A high-powered presidential delegation visited the palace of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, to seek marriage for President Buhari’s only son, Yusuf. The Eastern Security Network, ESN, a security wing of the Southeast Secessionist group, Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has allegedly killed their native doctor, Paschal Okeke from Umudim-Ukwu Orji, Awomama in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State over failure of charm he prepared to protect them against police bullet.
