How It All Started
Prince Harry and American actress and humanitarian Meghan Markle first met in July 2016. A mutual friend set up a date for them in London and they immediately kicked it off. As Meghan’s Instagram shows, she spent several days in London in the beginning of July last year.

The First Date
The two of them knew practically nothing about each other when they met. Meghan only knew Harry was the prince, and she asked the mutual friend before the date: “Is he nice?”

The Proposal Happened Earlier This Month
The proposal was low-key and intimate. Prince Harry popped the question while they were having one of “a standard, typical nighs” at Nottingham Cottage.
“Just a cozy night, it was—what were we doing? Roasting chicken and—,” Markle recalled.
“Trying to roast a chicken,” Harry replied.
“Trying to roast a chicken. And it was just—just an amazing surprise, it was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee.”

They Kept it a Secret for a While
The actual engagement happened a few weeks ago, but the only ones who knew about it before the official announcement were the couple’s families.

The Very Special Ring
Prince Harry actually designed his fiancee’s ring which incorporates several important elements.
“The ring is obviously yellow gold because that’s her favorite,” Harry explained. “The main stone itself is a stone from Botswana. The little diamonds on either side are from my mother’s jewelry collection, to make sure she’s with us on this crazy journey together.”

Wedding Date?

The Couple Wants Children Soon
In their first interview as an engaged couple for BBC, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were asked about children, to which he replied: “No, of course. One step at a time. Hopefully, we’ll start a family in the near future.”

During the BBC interview, Meghan shared that she has quit acting.
“I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change,” she said. “It’s a new chapter, right? And also, keep in mind, I’ve been working on [Suits] for seven years. We were very, very fortunate to have that sort of longevity on a series…I’ve ticked this box, and I feel very proud of the work I’ve done there, and now it’s time to work with [Harry] as a team.”

Not only she can prepare a decent meal, Meghan’s actually passionate about cooking so much that she started her lifestyle website, The Tig, focusing on food among other things.

As Prince Harry said, “there is a hell of a lot of staff and work that needs doing” and “with lots of young people running around the Commonwealth that’s where we’re going to spend most of our time hopefully”.

Late Princess Diana
Prince Harry said his mother would “be over the moon, jumping up and down” at news of their engagement. He also believes that Diana and Meghan would have been “best friends” and “thick as thieves”.
“It is days like today when I really miss having her around and miss being able to share the happy news. But you know with the ring and with everything else that’s going on I’m sure she’s… with us.”

Official statements from the Royal Family were shared on Twitter on Monday. “The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness,” one of them read.

Kate and Prince William are Thrilled
Prince Harry’s older brother, Prince William, and his wife Kate are thrilled about the news. They often spend time with Prince Harry and Meghan and the four of them enjoy each other’s company. The official release regarding the engagement read,
“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said of the engagement: ‘We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.'”

Differences Between Meghan and Kate
Two royal brothers fell for completely different women, though they seem to get along quite well. While Kate Middleton was born and raised in England, Markle is an American from California. And while Kate and Prince William have been together since college (and seem to have ever only dated each other), the actress and Prince Harry both have relationships behind them.
