Cameroon stripped of hosting 2019 Africa Cup of Nations | DETAILS
The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has announced that reigning champions Cameroon will be stripped of hosting the 2019 Africa Cup of Nationsdue to delays in the country’s preparation for the tournament.
The decision was made after a ten-hour meeting between committee members today in Ghana which lasted for over 10 hours.
Thousands of hectares of forestry to build stadiums and hotels to host the tournament had already been cut down but outbreaks of violent between English-speaking separatists and government forces near to two of the planned venues has curtailed their construction.
Caf president Ahmad Ahmad has said that the governing body will “determine a new organising country by the end of the year”.
A new bidding process is now open until December with the tournament set to take place in June. Morocco are currently thought to be frontrunners with options limited due to the short timespan for development.
