Disney+: “Hocus Pocus” Sequel in Development

Hocus Pocus is getting a second life with a sequel officially in the works at Disney+. 

The original Disney film was directed by Kenny Ortega from a script by Mick Garris and Neil Cuthbert. It followed the Sanderson sisters, played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, a trio of witches who are resurrected on Halloween, 300 years after the were cursed. They then discover to their horror that in the 20th century, Halloween has become a holiday. 

Scripting Hocus Pocus 2 is Workaholics writer and co-producer Jen D’Angelo. According to sources Midler, Parker, and Najimy are not attached to the project, however, Disney hopes to get them involved. 

Hocus Pocus was a disappointment in the box office bringing in just $39 million worldwide on a $28 million budget, however, the film quickly gained a cult following and has since become a Halloween staple.
