Over 25,685 babies will be born in Nigeria on January 1, 2019, making up 6.5 per cent of the estimated 395,072 babies to be born on New Year’s Day globally, says the United Nations Children Fund ( UNICEF ). According to a statement by UNICEF Nigeria’s Acting Representative, Pernille Ironside , over half of the world’s births are estimated to take place in just eight countries, including Nigeria.Ironside noted that India would record the highest birth of new babies with 69,944, followed by China with 44,940, Nigeria 25,685, Pakistan 15,112, Indonesia 13,256, United States 11,086, Democratic Republic of Congo 10,053 and 8,428 in Bahladesh. He said that Nigerian babies would account for almost 40 per cent of those born in West and Central Africa, and more than 23 per cent of those born in sub-Saharan Africa. The Nigerian Army has distanced itself from the recent video of a soldier complaining about the lack of weapons to fight Boko Haram. In a video shared by Reno Omokri on twitter, a group of Nigerian soldiers were seeing leaving their stations. The soldier who made the video said they were heading home to celebrate the New Year with them as they cannot continue to risk their lives. Reacting to the video, the Nigerian Army says the video is not a reflect of the true state of soldiers prosecuting the war against Boko Haram. The iconic music festival will mark its 50th anniversary where it all began.  The Woodstock 50th anniversary festival will be held at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, where the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair took place. The milestone festival will feature — you guessed it — live music. The Bethel Woods Center for the Arts announced Thursday that a three-day music festival will be held in August 2019 to mark the anniversary. The event is described as a “pan-generational music, culture and community event” featuring live music performances and TED-style talks “from leading futurists and retro-tech experts.” Performers will include “prominent and emerging artists spanning multiple genres and decades.”  The original Woodstock was held in August 1069 on a farm 137 kilometers from New York City. It is indeed going to be a beautiful day.  Sony Pictures has finally released the official title of the Mr. Rogers/Tom Hanks film. The untitled Mr. Rogers project, which at some point was titled You Are My Friend , is titled A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Marielle Heller will direct from a script penned by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster. The film is based on the real-life friendship between Fred Rogers, star of the long-running Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood ,  and award-winning journalist Junod. It tells the story of Junod who begrudgingly accepted an assignment to write a profile piece on the beloved icon and finds his perspective on life transformed. Hanks is set to portray the beloved TV personality Rogers. The cast also includes Matthew Rhys, as Lloyd, a fictionalized version of Junod, as well as Chris Cooper, Tammy Blanchard, and Sakina Jaffrey.
