Lawyer caught having sex on Zoom during live trial

A popular lawyer in Peru is currently under fire after he was caught having sex on Zoom network during a live court trial. In the video currently circulating, Hector Paredes, was caught stark-naked with a brunette as he forgot to turn off his camera during a hearing organised by a court in Pichanaki in the central Peruvian region of Junin on Tuesday, January 26. Court officials and other lawyers looked on in shock as Paredes, who was supposed to defend members of a criminal organisation ‘Los Z de Chanchamayo’, aired an x-rated scene during a session which was being watched and recorded on a public live feed. Xiaomei Havard:  A Chinese woman, Xiaomei Havard has become the latest member of South Africa’s parliament, replacing Jackson Mthembu who succumbed to the Covid-19 complications on 21 January. Lekki shootings: Army disbands legal team, withdraws from Lagos panel

The Nigerian Army has disbanded its legal team for the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Enquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS related abuses and the October 20  Lekki Toll Gate ‘shootings’. S.N. Agwhe, a member of army counsel to the panel made the development known to the Judicial Panel on Saturday, Agwhe had appeared before the panel on behalf of the army legal team, but revealed that the job of the army counsel finished on November 21,  The Nation  reports. “We do not have any further mandate to represent the army in any subsequent proceedings,” Agwhe told the panel. He reminded the panel that Akinlolu Kehinde, head of the army legal team, had earlier submitted a memo notifying the panel of the decision. The last hearing on January 23 was the third time in a row that the army and its counsel failed to appear before the panel. China records most monthly Covid-19 infections since March 2020

China has recorded more than 2,000 new domestic cases of COVID-19 in January, the highest monthly total since the tail end of the initial outbreak in Wuhan in March of last year. The National Health Commission said Sunday that 2,016 cases were reported from Jan. 1-30. That does not include another 435 infected people who arrived from abroad. The tally for Jan. 31 is due to be released Monday. Two people have died in January, the first reported COVID deaths in China in several months. Most of the new cases have been in three northern provinces. Hardest-hit Hebei province, which borders Beijing, has reported more than 900 cases. Beijing, the Chinese capital, has itself had 45 cases this month. The numbers, while low compared to many other countries, have prompted officials to tighten restrictions and strongly discourage people from traveling during the Lunar New Year, a major holiday when people typically return home for family reunions. 44-year-old father remanded for r.a.ping his Daughter in Osun

Osun State Magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, the state capital on Friday remanded a 44-year-old man, Kazeem Olapade for allegedly raping his 14-year-old daughter for five months. Police prosecutor, Inspector Akintunde Jacob informed the court that, the accused person did unlawful have carnal knowledge of his 14-year-old daughter, Kazeem Mariam between the months of August,2020 and January, 2021 at Ido-Osun Osogbo. FG contemplates another COVID-19 lockdown in Lagos, Abuja

The Federal Government has revealed that it is contemplating a lockdown in Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna and major cities in Nigeria due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases. Lagos, Africa’s largest city of at least 20 million people, was grounded to a halt last year as it was lockedown to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Dutch court orders Shell to pay Nigerian farmers over oil spills

A Dutch court has ordered Shell to pay compensation over oil spills in Nigeria’s Niger Delta in a ruling which could pave the way for more cases against the multinational oil firm. The Court of Appeal in The Hague on Friday ruled that the British-Dutch company, which is headquartered in the Netherlands, must issue payouts over a long-running civil case involving four Nigerian farmers seeking compensation, and a cleanup, from the company over pollution caused by leaking oil pipelines. “Shell Nigeria is sentenced to compensate farmers for damages,” the court said, adding that parent company Royal Dutch Shell was also liable to install equipment to prevent future damage. The case was brought in 2008 by the farmers and the campaign group Friends of the Earth, who were seeking reparations for lost income from contaminated land and waterways in the Niger Delta region, the heart of the Nigerian oil industry. NBC warns TV, radio stations on reporting herdsmen quit notice

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has warned television and radio stations against broadcasting divisive content. The warning is stated in a letter titled: ‘Broadcast of a crisis involving herdsmen, caution’, dated January 26, 2021. NBC, which is the regulator of the broadcast media, said there was a need for stations to maintain professionalism. The letter reads in part: “The National Broadcasting Commission wishes to bring to your attention emerging trends of national concern like the herdsmen crisis in Ondo and Oyo states and related issues which could spiral out of proportion if not properly handled. “The commission, therefore, seizes this opportunity to admonish broadcasters on the need to exhibit professionalism and observe required caution in the coverage and presentation of the quit notice to herdsmen and related issues.” The NBC reminded broadcasters of the rules governing coverage of crisis as well as the constitutional need to not only promote and protect the

Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has declared Ogun state will be his next destination to flush out criminal herdsmen. Professor Ekanem Ikpi Braide has been inducted as the first female president of the Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS). She is the 19th President of the Academy, and the first female President in its 44 years of existence. Professor Braide, a professor of Parasitology/Epidemiology was a member of the national committee that achieved the laudable feat of guinea worm eradication in Nigeria. In July 2010, Professor Braide was honoured by the President of Nigeria with the award of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) for her contribution to disease control in Nigeria. She was nominated by the Minister of Health to serve in the Ministerial Expert Advisory Committee on COVID-19 Health Sector Response (MEACoC-HSR). She also served as Vice Chancellor, Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) Calabar, Nigeria (2004 to 2009) and as Pioneer Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Lafia, Nigeria (2011 to 2016). Femi Falana condemns quit notice issued by Sunday Igboho

Nigerian activist, Femi Falana, has condemned the quit notice issued to Fulani Herdsmen in the Southeast by Sunday Igboho. Sunday Igboho has been trending online since he issued an ultimatum to Fulani herdsmen to vacate his town due to the high rate of crime in the area. We also earlier reported that the house of prominent activist, Sunday Igboho in Soka, Ibadan, capital of Oyo State, was burnt by suspected arsonists. Confirming the incident, the Oyo state police command said hoodlums who rode in a hummer bus and a Micra stormed the apartment, fired sporadic gunshots before setting the house ablaze.
