The government of Lagos State has noted with deep concern attacks on law enforcement agents by hoodlums. Such senseless attacks are attempts to trample on law and order by those who are desperate to turn our society upside down. This will not be allowed to happen. In the latest of such attacks, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Kazeem Abonde, was killed on September 23, 2021 in Ajao Estate by yet unknown hoodlums. I have directed the Commissioner of Police to ensure that all those who participated in this savagery are brought to justice. This is to encourage our law enforcement agents that we will always stand by them as they carry out their duties and, at the same time, send a strong signal to criminals that any attack on our officers will not go unpunished. Such display of savagery as the one in which CSP Abonde died will not be allowed in our state, no matter the circumstances. …Governor, Cabinet Members Inspect State-Funded Rail Projects The 2022 deadline set for the completion of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) projects being undertaken by the Lagos State Government remains sacrosanct, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu promised on Saturday. The Governor defied the rain for a physical assessment of the progress made in the construction of both Blue and Red Lines, inspecting the rail corridors to evaluate the ongoing work. The inspection came five months after Sanwo-Olu performed the groundbreaking ceremony to kick off the construction of the 37-kilometer-long Red Line, which starts from Agbado and terminates at Oyingbo. The Blue Line project, which started in 2010, is currently at over 80 percent completion. The rail projects are being undertaken by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), an agency under the Ministry of Transportation. A tiler, Okey Eze, has been arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency with 350 wraps of cocaine with a street value of N2.3bn. Eze was arrested with the drug weighing 7.70 kilogrammes on Wednesday during an inward clearance of passengers on Ethiopian airline flight number 911 enroute Bamako-Addis Ababa- Abuja. The Director of Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Wednesday said the 38-year-old from Orji River, in the Oji-River Local Government Area of Enugu State, concealed the drug in eight packs tucked in different parts of his luggage. Sanwo-Olu signs anti-open grazing bill into law…  Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has signed the bill prohibiting open cattle grazing in Lagos into law. He signed the bill into law on Monday. The Lagos house of assembly had passed the bill during plenary on September 9. Mudashiru Obasa, the speaker, had directed Olalekan Onafeko, the acting clerk, to transmit copies of the bill to the governor for assent. After the bill scaled second reading, the house held a public hearing, with different groups invited to air their views. During the airing, the south-west chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association(MACBAN) had asked for more time to train its members on how to stop the practice of open grazing. Maikudi Usman, zonal secretary of south-west MACBAN, said the members of the association need time to be educated on “how they will be breeding cattle in one place and not transfer to anybody’s land”.
